(no subject)

You awaken to blackness. Frightening, although familiar--this is the same terrible thing you narrowly avoided during your first trip into Lebensbaum. The pain of your death is still real, echoes of the wounds you suffered appearing on your skin. Inspecting your surroundings will tell you that you've woken up inside of the cooled, empty bonfire pit....and the town as it was is nowhere to be seen.

The sky is a whirlwind of blank, dark void. What previously acted as roadblocks on either side of the town seems to have moved upward, blocking out most of the sun's light. The street is barren, filled with piles of broken concrete, shattered glass, and smoking craters where many of the buildings used to be. Old bloodstains dot the pavement, mixing in with overturned cars and crumbling brick walls. Lebensbaum is a dead town, in more ways than one.

Except for the hotel. It stands, as dusty and abandoned as it ever was, but no worse for the wear. Scorch marks can be seen on the ground around it in a clear border, as though it had a barrier protecting it from whatever destroyed the village. If you venture inside, everything is in its place, as though the outside wasn't completely obliterated.

The living can be seen walking around, going about their daily lives, and if you concentrate, you can even see the buildings as they once were--in working order, clean, and in one piece.

As of Monday on Week 10, however, there is a door, seemingly pasted into the middle of the street. As the days tick by, the doors will increase in number, one for each victim.

[HE'S BIASED TOO so naturally he immediately agrees with that sentiment. He'd even said so to Leviathan directly.]

That's why she asked me to talk to you. She knew I wouldn't have trusted her word directly. [UGH, DEMONS.]

But if you think her actions can be trusted, then she might be our only key to figuring out how to stop Katerina.

[ Break nods, since this isn't exactly news to him. He would have definitely prefered to just be able to tell Gilbert more directly about why sharing that information was dangerous, but at the time, it was the only option. In fact, thinking of that gets him to laugh, and he shakes his head, but that part is more incredulous than anything else. ]

Unfortunately, there's little option but to trust her. I didn't even trust Miata until she showed how weak her resolve was, but I do at least trust that Miata wants to do the right thing. But she's no strategist, and she's not able to put aside her personal feelings.

[ Which, as Gilbert knows well, is something Break definitely considers important. Ironic, considering he's also a complete hypocrite about that, but he's also rather well aware of it. ]

Technically, we do know how to stop Katerina, but it's easier said than done. The demons are giving her power, so they will have to be taken care of. We've been allying ourselves with Leviathan to give her more power to be able to fight them and also for Miata to pull off the spells she needs. The demons protect Katerina, so they have to be dealt with, but from there, it's as simple as taking a book from Katerina. That's the source of her power. Take it from her, and she can be killed easily.

[ He shrugs ]

But the demons are the problem, obviously. I don't think it's impossible for us to fight them, personally, but it would take thought and strategizing. Leviathan knew their particular strengths and weaknesses, but we didn't make it to the specifics of what they were.

Leviathan's stopped here once before, so if we could find her again, maybe she'll be able to disclose that...

[Because fighting six demons does sound pretty daunting, honestly, even with the extra power Leviathan's supposedly been collecting.]

Otherwise, we'll just have to take care of the demons ourselves. I wonder if we'd have more of an advantage if we could fight them like this? Unless the damage they do here is still just as permanent, somehow.

I have no idea. I'm a bit more informed about this town and what's going on here than what I was telling you, but when it comes to this?

[ He motions around, generally just referring to ghost town ]

This, I didn't know anything about. I only guessed that you were seeing the destroyed town because Miata had mentioned that it was like that. It's why I was asking about the similarities between Sablier, since I knew it was similar enough that I could use that as a point of reference without Katerina thinking it odd.

I was hoping that telling you that would bring at least a few more things to light, but...

[A SIGH. In the end Break already knew anything useful that he had to say!! God, Break, save some sleuthing for the rest of them. He sighs again - two whole sighs in a row - and cards his hand through his hair in that habitually nervous gesture he has.]

...Well, we can give it a shot anyway and see what works. Though - I think Leviathan might be busy after this point...

Likely so. I would be surprised if that weren't the case, especially considering...

[ Now it's Break's turn to sigh, and he shakes his head. ]

Well, this is a mess. I don't like having to rely on a single person so strongly, but we more or less have to.
