You awaken to blackness. Frightening, although familiar--this is the same terrible thing you narrowly avoided during your first trip into Lebensbaum. The pain of your death is still real, echoes of the wounds you suffered appearing on your skin. Inspecting your surroundings will tell you that you've woken up inside of the cooled, empty bonfire pit....and the town as it was is nowhere to be seen.

The sky is a whirlwind of blank, dark void. What previously acted as roadblocks on either side of the town seems to have moved upward, blocking out most of the sun's light. The street is barren, filled with piles of broken concrete, shattered glass, and smoking craters where many of the buildings used to be. Old bloodstains dot the pavement, mixing in with overturned cars and crumbling brick walls. Lebensbaum is a dead town, in more ways than one.

Except for the hotel. It stands, as dusty and abandoned as it ever was, but no worse for the wear. Scorch marks can be seen on the ground around it in a clear border, as though it had a barrier protecting it from whatever destroyed the village. If you venture inside, everything is in its place, as though the outside wasn't completely obliterated.

The living can be seen walking around, going about their daily lives, and if you concentrate, you can even see the buildings as they once were--in working order, clean, and in one piece.

As of Monday on Week 10, however, there is a door, seemingly pasted into the middle of the street. As the days tick by, the doors will increase in number, one for each victim.

[sans's shit eating grin doesn't even falter. he's already dead, buddy. what do you think you can do!! also, getting a reaction out of sloth is way more than he hoped for already. he just shrugs, his eyes closed]

hm... paraphrasin' here, but you told undyne you'd stick around to talk next time if she was less. well. herself. so i figured-- i'm a calm enough guy. not a heck of a lot can rattle my bones. thought we could finish talking.

[he opens one eye slowly]

so we could talk... or you can do me one favor. if you wanna end this faster.

[sans's not usually one to listen to undyne, ever, technically his boss or not, but her passionate plea for him to try to convince sloth was intense enough for him to give it one shot. ...and, anyway, if he doesn't agree, sans can stick around and continue to needle answers out of him. get it so here goes BULLSHIT CENTRAL]

see, from what i gathered, you don't really want me to ask you all the questions i've got. and... trust me, i've got a heck of a lot. i'm a curious guy. heh, people like to say my brain's the only muscle i've got that ever got any use. joke's on 'em, i don't got either brains or brawn. i'm a skeleton. [he winks] anyway, i'm all about the knowledge. but, heh, even i've got to admit that sounds like a lot of effort. way less for me than you-- all i've gotta do is sit here an' do nothing, which is one of my favorite past time. you've gotta either answer or ... what, stay in that tree? i guess you can attack me but, heh. what's the point when i'm already dead? i guess i can exhaust my ghost energy... but then i'd just come right back here. i dunno about you but that sounds like a heck of a lotta trouble on both of our parts.

here's what i'm thinking might save us some time. i'll leave this place immediately, never bother you again... if you just agree to stop helpin' out katerina's revenge plan, or whatever it is.

[he'll stop there, let that sink in. he's ready to argue more for either case, but he's also not hoping for much on the favor front.]
thebonezone: ...the joke's less funny when the punchline is true huh (used to be a banker but i lost interest)

[sans, mentally: I DIDN'T THINK THIS WOULD WORK??? he shows none of that on his face, though.]

same way i know mine'd be. just trusting in one another's laziness. we both get to not do shit. [then, after a beat] heh. we can shake on it, make it an official contract an' whatever. but...for my part, if i'm honest, i hate making promises. i'm always keeping 'em even when they bring me nothing but trouble. but if you swear not to help out, then i promise you won't see me again. i don't break promises lightly.

[he's, uh, literally let nearly everybody die in some timelines over his one promise to keep a kid alive, so. he's being 100% serious.]

so, how 'bout it?

[wow. wow. he blinks once. is that even helpful. or a victory. he hops off the bed casually]

alright. here's to you doin' nothing.

[hopefully? it's not like he's gotten that many useful answers out of sloth before anyway. and sloth said. gluttony liked to talk. there's always that.

WELL. IF IT DOESN'T HELP. AT LEAST IT DIDN'T MAKE THINGS WORSE... and sans got to nap for 3 days??? he hopes he doesn't regret this promise. he walks off while whistling.

well. he tried, at least.]
