(no subject)

You awaken to blackness. Frightening, although familiar--this is the same terrible thing you narrowly avoided during your first trip into Lebensbaum. The pain of your death is still real, echoes of the wounds you suffered appearing on your skin. Inspecting your surroundings will tell you that you've woken up inside of the cooled, empty bonfire pit....and the town as it was is nowhere to be seen.

The sky is a whirlwind of blank, dark void. What previously acted as roadblocks on either side of the town seems to have moved upward, blocking out most of the sun's light. The street is barren, filled with piles of broken concrete, shattered glass, and smoking craters where many of the buildings used to be. Old bloodstains dot the pavement, mixing in with overturned cars and crumbling brick walls. Lebensbaum is a dead town, in more ways than one.

Except for the hotel. It stands, as dusty and abandoned as it ever was, but no worse for the wear. Scorch marks can be seen on the ground around it in a clear border, as though it had a barrier protecting it from whatever destroyed the village. If you venture inside, everything is in its place, as though the outside wasn't completely obliterated.

The living can be seen walking around, going about their daily lives, and if you concentrate, you can even see the buildings as they once were--in working order, clean, and in one piece.

As of Monday on Week 10, however, there is a door, seemingly pasted into the middle of the street. As the days tick by, the doors will increase in number, one for each victim.

[ play the knight, break says, and rhys is almost certain there is context behind that particular phrase but he doesn't bother to ask. instead he listens to break's explanation and while it's kind of cold, it rings true enough for rhys. break had the skill to defend, rhys didn't, and break was near death's door and rhys... wasn't. in the end, it didn't really matter though since they both died.

so, rhys nods and moves to push himself up from the ground. his echoeye is still a little on the fritz and won't focus right and his robot arm feels heavier than usual but otherwise, he's mostly okay. he feels... ill and sad and a little defeated but that's all stuff in his head that he can just ignore. when he's up, he brushes dirt off the front of his shirt and looks at break curiously. ]

Something's... different about you. She didn't kill you, did she?

[ he thinks the two are related, of course. aren't they? ]

She didn't, no. After— [ He pauses awkwardly, then waves his hand slightly dismissively, but it's really because he just doesn't want to say it. ]

Well, I cut off her arm, at least. She had to retreat after that, but it was as expected. That was the last of my strength that I could give.

[ Which he says softly, because even though Break is playing it cool, he's still not any more comfortable with the idea that he had just died than Rhys is. However, he's been meditating on that fact for far longer. It's been inevitable, and so having something after at least softens whatever he should be feeling to process it.

Yet even so, that serious expression lights quickly in a forced smile, and he reaches out to poke Rhys right in his forehead like a dumbass... ]

But~! I'm not sure how related that would be~? You know, surprisingly, you look rather similar to what I had imagined you to look like, Rhys. [ He at least leaves out the joke about how he saw him crying first, since that's kind of mean and he likes Rhys enough not to go that far... #friendship ]

[ you know, rhys was about to compliment break on being able to strike such a blow. he cut off her arm, that's incredible and surely something to be proud of.

but then of course, break distracts him with the other bit. ]

I, uh. What? [ wait, give him a moment to process this and his eyes just go sort of wide. ] Whaaaaaat.

[ his mouth drops open and he turns to break fully, the misery sort of disappearing in a flash at the fascination towards what this means for break. ]

You can see. You can see me! Oh my god! Except, wait, what do you mean I look close to what you imagined? Is that... is that an insult, Break?
crazily: please do not take! (oh and lingerie. lots of lingerie.)

[ Once Rhys starts to get it, Break pulls his hand away as he snickers. He's laughing into his hand by now, because it's strange, but not bad to have someone reacting this way. He's pleased by this development himself, but it's also something that he wouldn't quite allow himself to express or show either. So Rhys's reaction may in part be his own. ]

Oh, is it? Does it sound like an insult...?

[ He says, not answering the question, but he's just teasing Rhys. ]

Well, even though you explained it, the arm and eye are still a surprise.
