You awaken to blackness. Frightening, although familiar--this is the same terrible thing you narrowly avoided during your first trip into Lebensbaum. The pain of your death is still real, echoes of the wounds you suffered appearing on your skin. Inspecting your surroundings will tell you that you've woken up inside of the cooled, empty bonfire pit....and the town as it was is nowhere to be seen.
The sky is a whirlwind of blank, dark void. What previously acted as roadblocks on either side of the town seems to have moved upward, blocking out most of the sun's light. The street is barren, filled with piles of broken concrete, shattered glass, and smoking craters where many of the buildings used to be. Old bloodstains dot the pavement, mixing in with overturned cars and crumbling brick walls. Lebensbaum is a dead town, in more ways than one.
Except for the hotel. It stands, as dusty and abandoned as it ever was, but no worse for the wear. Scorch marks can be seen on the ground around it in a clear border, as though it had a barrier protecting it from whatever destroyed the village. If you venture inside, everything is in its place, as though the outside wasn't completely obliterated.
Concentrating will let you be able to see the living as they move around the hotel, going about their days--or perhaps doing something more sinister. It's only when they cross the scorched border that their already-flickering images fade from view entirely.
You're welcome to roam about. Doing so may even be beneficial, as you'll quickly discover that you aren't quite alone here.
Some additional points of reference, as asked:
• References for the locked rooms
• No one will be wearing their talismans
• No one will feel hunger or thirst, though they can sleep if they wish

Re: RINGZ (Week 8 Monday Morning)
What does she mean, "no one cares"?! [She means exactly that, Vegeta.]

[POLAND. Both touched but also like, why.]
...I don't think she meant any harm by it.

[WHICH SOUNDS VAGUELY INSULTING but he's trying to be reassuring here!!]
no subject
[But she probably is way too gay for that.]
no subject
[Is this the world Vegeta comes from. A place where he can't even understand that friendship is friendship. Who will save Vegeta.]
Anyway, it's a sweet gesture.
no subject
How is this sweet?

[PRESUMABLY BY NOW THIS HAS BEEN EXPLAINED TO CHESHIRE. MARRIED IS NOT THE SAME THING AS FRIENDS. RIGHT?]
no subject
But he'll do his best to shonen friendship an explanation out here OKAY.]
It's a symbolic marriage, in this case - not just Poland being frivolous. You heard that speech, right?
[A PAUSE
for dramatic effectbefore he carries on. He's not sure if Poland meant to tell him this in confidence or not, but hey. They're all dead here, okay.]She told me once that she had to marry the ocean twice. It sounds far-fetched and ridiculous, right? But then she explained it to me. She said that she was torn apart and her lands were taken, and she lost her access to the sea. Once the war was over, she married it to prove to her people that no matter what, she would always be able to get back what was hers. That happened twice, but she said if it happens again, she'd still marry the sea again to prove the same thing. So... I think that that's what she's doing here now, for us. It's symbolizing the fact that she's taken all of us up as something to fight for and protect, and her way of saying that she won't let us go.

"Always be able to get back what was hers." Something about that apparently gets to Vegeta, judging from the strange expression that passes over his face.]
... So she's being stubborn.
no subject
But Gilbert pauses for a second, simply nodding in the end because it's not like Vegeta is wrong.]
I think it's an admirable sort of stubbornness, though. Having a promise like that... It's a good reminder, I think. That we need to work toward the same thing and not give up.

[The words don't really seem like they fit in the shape of Takao's mouth the way his lips are curled over his teeth - it's a dissonant look, they should be more chapped than they are but, well, he's a ghost.]
We're closer to leaving then we were in the beginning... or not further away at least. [He sounds more confident of not further away than actually closer, to be honest.]
no subject
[But he's used to being the fatalistic gloomy one?? This is new to him...]

no subject
I definitely think it's a well thought out one, anyway...
no subject
Definitely well-thought out, that's for sure. This is a lot easier to hold than a pen. Let's get this party started.
[AND THEN HE PASSES THE RING INTO THE WILD BLUE YONDER.]
no subject
Eh— Why did you throw it?!
[TAKAO!! He's not well-versed on the basketball of you youngins from the future, okay.]
no subject
[Takao tilts his head. After this long it's actually slipped his mind briefly that Gilbert, like Lucy, would have never heard of basketball, so he doesn't put his answer in those terms.]
There's only so much you can do with something this small. Spin it around, pick it up - I figure this isn't the time to write letters without a board... "Passing" is my specialty, you know. Why not do that?
[While the sense of "throw" to pass might be completely unknown to Gilbert, it should probably at least obviously stand out as a loanword.]
